Or in other words, “Describing myself in my own words.”
I’m Arjun, an advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Kerala, currently pursuing my masters in Law at the Azim Premji University in Bangalore. I hail from Kozhikode in northern Kerala where I did my primary and secondary schooling.
As a young teenager who was passionate about technology, I aspired to be an engineer and was inspired by the 2009 Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots. But I realized soon after tasting mathematics and physics in my higher secondary classes that it was not my cup of tea.
I enrolled for Law at the Government Law College, Kozhikode after finishing my twelfth and in 2014, I attempted CLAT which helped me land at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, one of the premier Law Schools in India where I did my bachelors.
During my university days me along with a few friends launched ‘Your Lawyer Friend’, an organisation involved in strategic litigation and awareness building on students’ rights. In one of the litigations that we spearheaded, the Kerala High Court declared access to internet a fundamental right.
I joined Azim Premji University in Bangalore for my masters in ‘Law & Development’, and I am struggling to survive it now.
I recently launched a YouTube channel to explain laws in non-technical, everyday malayalam. It can be accessed here.
I follow Technology, Indian and Kerala politics, Law – Human Rights, Environment, Intellectual Property Rights and Cyber Laws particularly, and Malayalam Literature. I also occasionally write short-stories in Malayalam.
I would place me somewhere left to Centre politically, and far away from God religiously. I also support the Free Software Movement and Rationalist Movement.
No, my parents did not name me Arjun Azad. They named me Arjun. I used Azad as a pseudonym when I first thought about blogging and was concerned too much about privacy. Well the game of pseudonym is interesting only when people actually want to know who you really are.
But among the innumerable people who take to the internet to publish themselves, my writings weren’t good enough to get people wanting to know who I really am. I lost fun in that game but I couldn’t leave my Azad. So here I am : Arjun Azad.
The official me is Arjun PK. You’ll find that name in my school/college certificates and academic publications.
I write primarily in Malayalam, secondarily in English. Click here to view the latest posts.
